Kid

From Carbon Accounting to SBTi-Targets and CSRD

Kid ASA, the parent company of Hemtex and Kid, has together with 2050 established the foundation for an ambitious and structured climate program, from annual carbon accounting to validated SBTi targets and full CSRD readiness.

”With support from 2050, we have built a strong foundation for our climate work and CSRD readiness. It is an effective combination of projects that address concrete questions while ensuring ongoing monitoring and reporting.”

Simon Röman, Sustainability & Quality Assurance Manager, Kid ASA

Challenge: Increasing Requirements and a Complex Value Chain

With a value chain spanning hundreds of suppliers in China, India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh—where 99% of the climate footprint lies in Scope 3—the company faced growing demands. Kid ASA needed to:

  • Set science-based climate targets aligned with the Paris Agreement and have them validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)
  • Identify material sustainability topics in preparation for CSRD reporting in accordance with ESRS
  • Establish an annual carbon accounting process with sufficient data quality to support both internal management and external reporting

Solution: Carbon Accounting, SBTi, and Double Materiality Assessment

2050 has supported Kid ASA in an expanded and ongoing sustainability program:

  • Annual carbon accounting in accordance with the GHG Protocol—including a full assessment of Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, as well as supplier-level calculations for Tier 1 suppliers
  • SBTi target-setting and submission—Kid ASA established near- and long-term targets, which were validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)
  • An action analysis to enhance understanding of how Kid ASA can achieve its emission reduction targets
  • Double materiality assessment (DMA)—conducted through stakeholder engagement, impact assessment, and financial risk analysis in line with ESRS

Results: Validated Targets and a Strong Foundation for CSRD Reporting

The work has provided Kid ASA with a solid and credible foundation for upcoming reporting requirements. It has resulted in:

  • An annual carbon accounting process that enables comparability over time and is used in the company’s sustainability reporting
  • Validated SBTi targets
  • Identification of material topics and sub-topics
  • Stakeholder engagement with suppliers, investors, and NGOs, providing input for both the double materiality assessment and the climate strategy
