Joint Efforts for Regional Climate Accounting
Continuously monitoring greenhouse gas emissions is key to effective climate management. With SKR’s tool, Sweden’s regions can calculate their emissions in a structured and consistent way.
Challenge: Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reporting for Sweden’s Regions
Sweden’s regions have long prioritized climate issues, but differences in methods and approaches to climate reporting across regions have made comparison and aggregation challenging.
Solution: A Joint Regional Tool for Greenhouse Gas Emissions Calculation
Development of a shared, Excel-based tool with a structured framework tailored to regional operations and aligned with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. As a complement, guidance has also been developed, providing information on system boundaries, methodological choices, and adaptations.
The tool and guidance were developed in 2021 and have since been continuously expanded and refined in line with increasing requirements and the regions’ own needs and feedback.
Results: Increased Understanding and Aligned Climate Reporting
The development of the tool and accompanying guidance has enabled increased understanding among the regions of their climate impact, as well as more harmonized climate reporting across regions.
