Sveaskog
From Analysis to Strategic Support and Trust
As a state-owned company, Sveaskog is required to serve as a role model in sustainable value creation. In its climate work, this has involved a journey from quantifying emissions to setting strategic targets and monitoring progress.
”Sustainability and forestry are complex, but 2050 provides support through regulatory expertise and objective perspectives, making it easier to navigate issues where facts, opinions, and long-standing assumptions often intersect.”
Cecilia Hellström, Sustainability Manager, Sveaskog
Challenge: Large Organization with Broad Operations Across Complex Issues
Sveaskog is a major player in the forestry industry, which brings both advantages and challenges. Bringing all parts of the organization together into a unified approach to climate reporting and follow-up can be complex. At the same time, Sveaskog has set ambitious goals and aims to take responsibility for both its own operations and its value chain.
Solution: An Integrated Project Office Supporting a Range of Issues and Initiatives
Sveaskog has engaged 2050 to establish a project office, where a wide range of topics and initiatives have been carried out over recent years, including:
- Ongoing monitoring of the company’s anthropogenic emissions, as well as reporting on the forest carbon balance
- Support for reporting in accordance with CSRD
- Development of a comprehensive climate action analysis, in which the emission reduction potential of measures has been quantified and priority actions have been cost-estimated
- Support related to market-based instruments for transition within the value chain
Results: A Strengthened Partnership
Through the collaboration, Sveaskog has established a structured approach to climate management, with a clear understanding of its anthropogenic emissions, quantified measures, and support related to market-based instruments. This work enables the company to make well-informed strategic decisions and to communicate its climate efforts with credibility to stakeholders.
